Author Visits
Susi Briggs
On Monday 4th March we welcomed the amazing Susi Briggs to entertain our Nursery-P3 young people. Susi read from all of her books and even did some puppetry for our classes. There was much laughter and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the visit.
Justin Davies
On Tuesday 5th March, P4-S1 pupils were very lucky and welcomed the fabulous Justin Davies with the help of Live Literature funding from the Scottish Book Trust. Justin read from his book 'Haarville' and discussed creative writing, becoming an author and answered lots of questions!
Justin was able to provide a second session with us and spent an hour with our S1 pupils discussing how to become a writer and the different and creative ways that you can create a story.

Renita Boyle Visit
On Wednesday 8th March we had a special treat at Moffat Academy an a extra World Book Day event. We had the fantastic storyteller and author from Wigtown, Renita Boyle to visit. Renita told stories (including her own book Honk! Honk! Rattle!Rattle!) and sang funny songs to our Primary pupils and held poetry and teabag decorating workshops for our S1 pupils. Pupils even had the chance to learn some Makaton Sign Language. Thank you Renita for a brilliant day, you entertained everyone as always - even some of our senior pupils were excited to see Renita again after a previous visit a few years ago!

David Macphail Author Visit with the Wigtown Book Festival on Tour
We were delighted that Moffat Primary was chosen as one of fifty D&G primary schools to receive a fully funded author visit as part of the Big DoG School's Tour, organised by Wigtown Festival Company with support from Baillie Gifford.
On Monday 7th November, we welcomed the fantastic children's author David Macphail to Moffat Primary. David discussed how he became an author and then read the first chapter in his book 'Top Secret Grandad and Me: Death by Soup' followed by lots of pupil questions! David then discussed how he creates his stories using mindmaps.
David was very entertaining and interactive with the pupils and they thoroughly enjoyed the session.
A huge thank you to David Macphail and the Wigtown Book Festival team!
Joan Haig Author Visit
Thank you so much to author Joan Haig for visiting P6 and P7 to talk about your book 'Talking History'. Joan discussed how a book is made with all the different contributors such as the editor, the consultants, the author and the illustrators etc. Pupils watched some examples of great speeches and learnt some tips about how to make a good speech themselves.
