EMily hume

Congratulations to Emily Hume (S4) who was been successful in her application for the Science Summer course at Edinburgh Zoo. Emily will spend a week finding out about how zoos work behind the scenes, covering scientific areas such as animal behaviour, welfare, genetic management, ecology and conservation. 

Related meta skills: time management, problem solving, communication and collaborative work.

UNCRC article 29 Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child’s respect for the environment.

Zoolab

On Friday 10th May all S3 Biology students had the opportunity to take part in a biomimetics and amazing adaptations workshop from Zoolab.

Amongst the animals brought in by the Zoolab team were a giant African Landsnail, a Chilean rose tarantula and a cornsnake.

UNCRC Article 29 (goals of education) Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child’s respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment.

 Edinburgh Zoo Excursion 

On Friday 15th March all Higher Biology students went on an excursion to Edinburgh zoo.

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland delivers a programme which aligns with the Higher Biology courses. The pupils learned about various social behaviours shown by animals and used research methods such as ethograms to understand the importance of social behaviours in primates.

A great day was had by everyone!
