First Minister Visit 4.3.24

We were very excited to welcome First Minister Humza Yousaf to our Secondary Library on Monday 4th March during a visit to Moffat Academy for the official launch of the Gender Based Violence Prevention Framework. We welcomed him at the library door and then showed him around. The First Minister also conducted lots of interviews in the library - there was a whole studio set up with cameras, lights, journalists and photographers! Definitely a different day for us today!

Travel Section

Charlie McMillan and Eileen Roberts of the Moffat and District Twinning Association contacted Moffat Academy last year to donate funds totalling £1899.78 - this came about sadly due to the closure sure of the association.

However, the funds were put to good use in the creation of a Cultural / Travel / Tourism section of the library dedicated to encouraging young people to understand and explore different people and places in the world, hopefully making them curious to travel in the future.

Interestingly, Charlie and Eileen of the association said that twinning partnerships were created after the war in an effort to encourage cultures to understand each other better and as a result hopefully prevent conflict and war in the future.

Moffat Academy are really grateful for this donation and Tessa Gibbon (our school librarian) has done a great job of creating a bright, interesting and cozy seated travel section of our library.  Charlie and Eileen were very impressed and pleased with the new library area.

Following an appeal, thank you to two lovely kind people who donated this whole tree and decorations! Our Library team did a fantastic job of decorating it.

Work Experience 16th-19th May 2022

We have Laura Darkevica and Reece Paterson in the library this week as part of their S3 Work Experience Programme. They have already been busy cataloguing books, making posters and updating displays.
