Beattock Nursery News 2022/23, Term 4
This term has been full of confident individuals, responsible citizens, effective contributors and successful learners at Beattock Nursery. Here are some of the highlights.
TRANSITION
We can’t thank our Primary Buddies enough for their care and thoughtfulness towards our pupils who are moving onto Primary 1. They have been with us every step of the way! We’ve also loved visiting Mrs Miller and Mrs Berridge every week during Moving on in May and then Induction in June.
It has been great to be involved in lots of whole school activities to help us get used to ‘big school’. Health Week and the Platinum Jubilee have been real favourites.
We met our new starts at their homes and had a lot of fun when they came for their Play Dates.
HEALTH WEEK
Turns out Beattock nursery are pretty sporty! Thank you to all the coaches and Childsmile nurses who inspired us to try new sports and think about how to stay healthy and safe. We were really chuffed to have so many parents join us for a Big Cook, Little Cook Bonanza of trying new healthy recipes for the summer holidays. The results were mouth-watering!
GREEN FINGERS: CHAMPIONS OF THE EARTH!
Our Wee Dig It garden area continues to grow and bloom. We planted carrots, potatoes and peas in the raised beds. We’re hoping they will be ready for our Wee Dig It Agricultural Show in September. In the meantime, if the strawberries and radishes are anything to go by, the Show will be full of worthy rosette winners! Thank you to all the parent helpers who have supported this project in lots of practical ways.
Way back in March 2020, the day before the first Lockdown, the nursery planted an Avenue of Gean and Rowan Trees at Beattock Park to symbolise our friendship. Every few weeks this term the nursery have checked up on the saplings’ progress. Some of them are taller than the teachers! Next term we’re looking forward to unveiling a special commemorative plaque at the park.
Making bread for snack got us thinking about where bread comes from so when we got a packet called Grow Your Own Loaf we were very intrigued!
MRS PROUDFOOT makes us PROUD!
What do dinosaurs at the park, creative creations and a Fashion Show have in common? These are just some of the enjoyable activities our NC student Mrs Proudfoot has organised for us this term. London, Paris and Milan have already been in touch to get tips for this summer’s hot looks!
FINALLY, FROEBEL!
We are delighted to announce that Beattock nursery’s staff have completed their year-long training with Edinburgh University’s Froebel in Practice Course. We can officially call ourselves Froebelians and a Froebel Nursery. We met our tutors Dr Lynn McNair, Catriona Gill and Jane Whinnet, MBE who have inspired our practice. If you’re wondering what or who Froebel is, then please come to Beattock Nursery for a visit to find out!
Froebel was the founder of kindergartens. But the very first nursery in the world was here in Scotland, only 17 miles away at New Lanark in 1816. It’s well worth a visit to this fantastic World UNESCO site. Something for the summer holidays?
