10000 Voices

Moffat Academy P7 pupils took part in the Youth Work Service's '10000  Voices' survey.

The Youth Work Service is currently consulting with young people across Dumfries and Galloway, to gather their views of the communities where they live and provide an insight into the issues that affect them.  The consultation is named 10,000 Voices and is aimed at 10 – 25 year olds.

This research was first carried out and published in 2018, with a commitment to renew the consultation after a 5-year period, in order to map the contemporary youth work landscape and identify the current issues and challenges facing young people.

The findings from the new survey, that will be available from March 2023, and will provide professionals working with young people with a better understanding of understand the issues for young people in a post-pandemic world.

10,000 Voices uses the Scottish Government’s Place Standards Tool that has been developed by NHS Scotland, Architecture and Design Scotland and Her Majesties Inspectorate for Education, along with a series of questions on issues that affect them and issues that they need more support or information on.

The consultation has been endorsed by our Council’s Senior Leadership Team, and the results of the previous survey have been used to inform and shape Council services over the last 4 years, and will continue to provide community planning partners with up to date information on the needs of children and young people n Dumfries and Galloway.

Young people are asked to rate certain aspects of their community on a scale of 1 – 7 (such as play facilities, safety, amenities) , and tick boxes next to issues that affect them or they feel young people need more information on.

It is an anonymous survey, and was completed online via mentimeter.

100 Days in P1

P1/2 enjoyed a day to celebrate 100 Days at school for P1, and 100 days of P2 for P2. We had lots of 100 themed activities and a party in the afternoon. Everyone came dressed in number themed clothes , or as someone from 100 years in the past or future.

We start counting How Many Days we have been at school from the beginning of the school year on our Ten Frames. We learn so much about number, time, place value and subitizing in a meaningful and purposeful way. We're looking forward to counting the next 100!

P7 Visit from Edna Wells

On Wednesday 18th January, P7 pupils from Moffat Academy completed their World War Two topic with a visit from veteran Edna Wells. Edna, who is 97, told them about her role as a former WREN and shared her stories and memories about her experiences during the war. Edna also shared with them artefacts and photographs of herself and her family giving the children a first hand account of what life was like during this period. The children were interested and engaged throughout. Class teacher, Claire Berridge, who arranged the visit said, “This was an excellent way to finish off the topic by hearing directly from Edna. She told some amazing stories and it really brought learning to life. We’d like to take this opportunity thank Edna and her granddaughter Vicki for their visit”

The children also enjoyed hot chocolate and cakes served by some S£ pupils. When they asked Edna what advice she would give this generation she replied, “Do what you want to do, enjoy it and give it your all.”

 P6/7 Aladdin JR Performance

Aladdin Jr has been a collaborative project between Primary 6 and Primary 7. A true test of teamwork, the group of over 60 young people had to learn singing and speaking roles, choreography, and understand the workings of the technical aspects of theatre including set design, lighting and sound. With two evening performances on Tuesday 28th and Wednesday 29th March, parent/carer and community feedback was outstanding. The young people displayed impressive confidence, determination and a keen sense of fun. It was a delight to have the school open once again to the community for such an enjoyable event.
