Budapest Cafe Orchestra
A wonderful afternoon of live music!
We were thrilled to welcome the The Budapest Cafe Orchestra back into school this week to perform for our Primary children.
A huge thank you to Christian, Lexie’s dad in P2, who very kindly offered to visit and perform for us again. It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to experience live music up close, see skilled and talented musicians in action, and learn more about the different instruments being played.
The musicians were so generous in sharing their knowledge, enthusiasm and love of music. It was lovely to see the children listening carefully, asking questions and showing real curiosity.
Experiences like this are a brilliant way to develop important meta-skills too, including creativity, communication, curiosity and collaboration.
Thank you again to Christian and the Budapest Café Orchestra for giving our children such a memorable musical experience.

P5 enjoyed a fantastic sleepover and enjoyed making karts with Kayantics.
P1 Bake Sale
P1 held a tasty bake sale - well done P1!
P7 Graduation
P7 enjoyed a wonderful Graduation and Afternoon Tea 18th June, with parents joining in the celebrations.
The assembly hall looked fantastic, beautifully set with decorated tables and an impressive selection of cakes made by the pupils themselves. The children proudly served tea, coffee and refreshments to their families before everyone settled in for an afternoon of performances, videos and a fun quiz.
The event finished with our P7 pupils taking to the stage to receive their leavers’ gifts – a lovely way to mark the end of their primary journey.
Thank you to Miss McDonald for the fantastic leavers videos and organising, Mr Gallacher for hosting and for a great speech to our P7s, Ashleigh Douglas and Mrs Woods for presenting leaving gifts and to the Moffat Academy Parent Connect for providing the gifts.
Well done to all of our P7s – we are so proud of you!

Primary Health Week
Moffat Academy celebrated a sunny Primary Health Week this week with a variety of fun and engaging activities focused on promoting healthy habits among our young people. From energetic exercise sessions and health workshops to mindfulness and wellbeing activities, the children embraced opportunities to learn about staying active and looking after their mental health. It was a fantastic week of awareness and positivity, helping to inspire lifelong healthy choices!
World Cup picnic
The weather was kind to us yesterday for our Primary World Cup picnic and dance which was completed in the quad at lunchtime.
I’m sure the Scottish team could feel the positive vibes all the way over in America!
Primary Prize Giving
We were delighted to welcome families, friends and members of our wider school community to our End of Term Assembly, marking the close of another busy, exciting and memorable year in Primary at Moffat Academy.
The morning began in true Moffat style with a brilliant performance from Moffat Pipe Band, setting the tone for a special celebration of our children, staff, families and school community.
Across the assembly, our learners helped us reflect on a year filled with learning, laughter and new experiences. From classroom learning and creative projects to trips, performances, sporting events, clubs and wider achievements, there has been so much to celebrate.
A key part of the morning was recognising children who have shown our school values of Determination, Equality, Responsibility, Honesty and Respect. Class teachers presented values medals across the primary stages, celebrating learners who have demonstrated these values through their effort, kindness, attitude, responsibility and care for others.
Congratulations also to McAdam, who were awarded the House Shield for this session after building a strong lead across the year. Well done to all children in both houses for the points they have earned through learning, sport, teamwork, kindness and positive contributions to school life.
We were also pleased to celebrate sporting achievement, with the 2026 Sports Champion Cups awarded to Isla Wilson as Girls’ Sports Champion and George Woods as Boys’ Sports Champion.
There were further special achievements to recognise, including Zavier, who received an Honours Reading Award. This is a fantastic achievement and reflects real commitment, effort and enjoyment in reading.
Our Primary 7 learners played a central part in the celebration too. They performed the Cup Song, following its success at their Afternoon Tea, and were recognised as they reach the end of their primary school journey. We are very proud of the character, humour, talent and determination they have shown during their time in Primary.
We were also delighted to introduce a very special new award this year: the Spirit of Moffat Shield. This award recognises a Primary 7 learner who truly embodies the values and spirit of our school: someone who shows kindness, empathy and understanding, contributes positively to school life, supports others, works hard and gives their best. We were very proud to announce Evie Rankin as the first ever recipient of the Spirit of Moffat Shield.
The assembly also gave us the opportunity to say fond farewells and thank yous to valued members of staff, and to recognise the support of our families, partners and wider community throughout the year.
A huge well done to every learner who has contributed to Team Moffat through effort, kindness, teamwork, creativity, determination and school spirit.

The Lois Sherret Trust
On 29th June, P3 welcomed Mrs Berridge, who visited in her new role as a trustee of The Lois Sherret Trust and as author of The Sherreta’ Sma Haddin. She shared the inspiring story behind the trust, explaining why it was established, and read from her book, which tells the story of Lois and Graham Sherret.
As part of the visit, the children enjoyed learning about the Scots language before designing their own sma haddin and creating their own imaginative versions of Cluckingham Palace. To round off a wonderful day, P3 also enjoyed a visit from Barney, the school’s wellbeing dog, who was delighted to spend time with the class.

Nursery:
Laura Bowsher Visit
Following our interest in bees from receiving our bee hive from Moffat Men's shed, the nursery were very lucky to have a visit from Laura Bowsher of Bowray Bees to celebrate World Bee Day. Laura has her very own bee hives and sells her lovely honey. She talked to us about her bees and how they make the honey, showed us lots of pictures and also brought in some of her equipment to show us.
We all learnt lots of new things about bees, including the adults! There were lots of bee activities on offer throughout the week
too
The highlight of the day was the nursery choosing the name of Laura's new Queen Bee, Queen Casey!

Ben Johnstone visits Nursery!
The nursery were delighted to welcome a surprise visitor to nursery this morning. Ben Johnstone, a real life professional football player who plays for Queen of the South came to talk to us about his job. We looked at photographs from when he was at nursery and his journey through his training, right up to him playing in his debut game against Rangers!
The children then went to the gym hall to practice some football skills and tried to score some goals with Ben as the Goalie!
Thanks to Ben for giving up his time and letting the little ones know that dreams can come true!
Nursery Graduation
Moffat Nursery celebrated a wonderful Nursery Graduation yesterday morning, marking a very special milestone for our young learners.
As part of the ceremony, Mrs Ryder shared a fantastic presentation showcasing what each of the children dreams of becoming when they grow up. From future police officers and builders to princesses and doctors, it was a lovely reminder that every big journey begins with a dream!
Congratulations to all of our nursery graduates—we are so proud of you and can't wait to see what the future holds!

David Attenborough
Nursery created some fantastic sea-life paintings and a matching cake to celebrate David Attenborough's 100th birthday.
