Hockey
Moffat Academy attended the annual regional S2/3 Dr Turners Hockey tournament. The tournament was so well organised that even the sun was shining for us. The girl's team played five closely contested matches against teams from other schools and managed to score some well worked goals from a result of effective teamwork. Congratulations to Eilidh who scored the most goals for Moffat. The boys team played very good free flowing Hockey but struggled to open up enough space in their final game to get a result. This meant they finished the tournament in second place. Congratulations to Fred who scored the most goals for Moffat. All of the Moffat pupils were a credit to their school and performed in the games in an excellent manner and thanks goes out to the organisers of the regional competition.

Biking Event
On the 12th September Moffat Academy competed in the Scottish Schools Mountain Bike Competition at Comrie Croft near Crieff, supported by Mrs Candlish and Mrs Ayling. Almost 50 school were represented from across Scotland. There were competitors from various year groups, and all our young people were a credit to the school. Corbin Adamson, Euan Little and Jack Martin were in the S1/2 XC race alongside 93 other competitors. Fraser Porteous, Archie Dowson, Fergus Vandale and Murray Green competed in the S3/4 XC race, alongside 106 other competitors. Congratulations to Fergus who achieved the 24th fastest lap overall. It was a gruelling track with a mix of steep uphill sections and tricky single-track descents, with 45 minutes of racing laps, but all young people gave it their all showing great skill, sportsmanship and determination. A couple of mechanical set backs hindered one or two, but overall the performance was exceptional. Huge congratulations to all those who raced, you were truly amazing!
Mural Trip
National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher Art pupils travelled to Glasgow on Wednesday. They enjoyed a guided tour of the murals and street art in the city. They also visited Pizza Hut and some time to shop. The sun was shining throughout!

The National Five and Higher Classical Studies class travelled to the edge of empire on the 1st October.
They visited the Roman Army Museum first, learning about the expansion of empire and the Roman strongholds in Britain.
They then travelled down to Vindolanda, one of the best sites for exploring life in Roman Britain. Here, they were guided around the site looking at the excavated ruins of parts of the town and army barracks. Afterwards, they explored the Vindolanda museum, host to thousands of artefacts uncovered by the excavations at Vindolanda (including the famous writing tablets).

SPORTSCOTLAND YOUNG AMBASSADORS CONFERENCE 2024
Each year, two pupils from every secondary school in Scotland have the opportunity to be selected as Young Ambassadors to promote sport and motivate and inspire other young people to get involved in sport in their schools, clubs and local communities or to be more physically active. This year, our Moffat Academy Sports Ambassadors are Jessica Salmon and Harry Brown; in September they attended the Young Sportscotland Ambassadors Conference at the home of Scottish Football, Hamden Park, Glasgow.
Jessica and Harry, pictured pitch side also had the opportunity to meet Paralympic athlete Melanie Woods who competed in the T54 400m, 800m and 1500m in Paris.
The Young Ambassadors programme is organised by Sportscotland and is funded by the National Lottery. It is a key element of Sportscotland’s contribution to developing young people as leaders in sport. They believe that young people make a meaningful and important contribution as leaders in sport, and that young people should have access to a range of opportunities of leadership roles which reflect their interests and abilities.

James, Alfie, Mallory and Eilidh took part in the Dumfries and Galloway round of the Enterprising Maths Challenge at St. Joseph's College where they valiantly competed against the other schools in the region in a variety of mathematical problem solving challenges, including folding Sonobe Units to build Toshie's Jewels as pictured!
