Royal Navy Youth Engagement Team Inspires Collaboration at Moffat Academy
Moffat Academy was delighted to welcome the Royal Navy Youth Engagement Team on Wednesday 14 January, who delivered an engaging and highly interactive session for students in S1–S3.
Throughout the day, young people took part in a series of team-based challenges designed to develop collaboration and problem-solving skills. Working to a detailed brief, students were tasked with designing and building structures such as towers and windmills, encouraging them to think creatively while communicating effectively under time constraints.
The activities provided an excellent opportunity for students to strengthen their leadership, teamwork and communication skills in a fun and supportive environment. They responded with enthusiasm, demonstrating resilience, creativity and a strong sense of cooperation as they tackled each challenge.

S3 “Arrow of Time” Clock Project – A Timely Success!
Our S3 young people have recently completed the “Arrow of Time” clock making project, and what a fantastic achievement it has been!
Starting with a simple wooden frame, they worked hard to measure, cut, and assemble their clocks with care and precision. Each design was unique, with learners adding their own creative touches to the top section and clock face.
Two young people even incorporated 3D-printed elements, showing how traditional woodworking can blend with modern technology to create something truly special.
This project was more than just a practical exercise. It was a reflection on the nature of time itself. Each tick of the clock reminds us that moments are fleeting, and every opportunity must be embraced with purpose and care. For our pupils, these handcrafted timepieces are not only functional objects but symbols of perseverance, creativity, and growth. They will stand as a lasting reminder that tempus fugit (time flies) and that what we choose to do with it defines who we become.

French Tote Bags
In French, S3 took part in an eco-bag competition, where they had to come up with a slogan in French and picture to highlight environmental issues. 3 winners were chosen from each class and they were all given a reusable tote bag with their design printed on it as a prize.
3H winners: Chantelle Murray, Ava Smith and Tia Mainwaring
3Q winners: Frida Rae, Ava Green and Giuliana Capriglione

S2 Model Making
S2 pupils explored their future careers and aspirations through a creative and hands-on project. They began by designing mind maps to reflect their potential career paths and personal goals, encouraging them to think critically about what they might achieve in the future. Pupils then brought their ideas to life by creating models of themselves using paper and Mod Roc, combining imagination with practical skills.
Throughout the project, they developed a range of skills, including planning, problem-solving, creativity, and model-making techniques, while also gaining confidence in expressing their ambitions visually.

Article 29. Education should develop each child’s personality and talents to the full. It should encourage children to respect their parents, their own and other cultures and the environment.
