Moffat Academy Whole School News 2024/25, Term 3

World Book Day

For World Book Day this year Primary were tasked with designing a bookmark, well done to all those who won a prize; our Senior Prefect judges had a very difficult time deciding the winners! Also well done to all of our Best Outfit winners, there were just some amazing creations, we were very impressed. In Secondary we held lots of mini - events throughout the week; Kahoot, Countdown, Find the Book Race and a Golden Ticket hunt to name a few. The Library Team enjoyed a well deserved party at lunchtime at the end of the week.

Bleep Tests

Young people from P6 up to S6 have all had the opportunity in PE to participate in The Bleep Test. They have completed the test and set a target to motivate them to train throughout January.

Congratulations to Alfie Thomson would was able to achieve the highest score for all secondary pupils but a special mention to Joseph Palmer who achieved the highest score in Primary and was only beaten by three secondary young people.

Parents, caregivers and staff have also had the opportunity to participate in this fitness test to motivate our young athletes, congratulations to all who attended. The competitive spirit came out and all of those involved displayed an excellent effort in this challenging physical test. More encouragingly the overall opinion was to organise this again test again later in the term so that everybody has the opportunity to improve their score. Look out for further information regarding this. Many thanks to all involved.

The Regional Gymnastics Competition

The Regional Gymnastics Competition was an exciting and inspiring event, showcasing the remarkable talent and dedication of young gymnasts from across the area. Among the standout performances were the pupils from Moffat Academy, who demonstrated exceptional skill and teamwork throughout the competition.

Moffat Academy's team delivered an outstanding performance, earning the silver medal in the overall team category. Their hard work and perseverance shone brightly, as they executed their routines with precision and grace, impressing both the judges and the audience.

A special mention goes to Aurla, who achieved a phenomenal result in the individual category by securing the bronze medal. Her dedication to her craft and her ability to perform under pressure were truly commendable. Aurla's achievement is a testament to her talent and determination, and she should be immensely proud of this accomplishment.

A special highlight of the secondary competition was Ellen, who achieved an impressive bronze medal in the individual category. Ellen’s grace, precision, and hard work were evident in her routine and vault, earning her a well-deserved spot on the podium and applause from all in attendance.
The entire competition was a celebration of the participants' hard work, sportsmanship, and passion for gymnastics. Congratulations to all the pupils from Moffat Academy for their remarkable achievements, and a special thank you to the coaches and supporters who made this experience possible.

Memorial match

Moffat Academy was the setting for the annual football match between staff and senior pupils in memory of Finlay Johns, Ian Cannon and Tyler Johnston. This match is played as a mark of respect for the boys and for the first time the staff emerged victorious 4 -3 after a hard fought encounter. As always, it was a match played in a tremendous spirit and a fitting tribute to the young men.

Neurodiversity Week

During Neurodiversity Week, we shared some quotes on social media, kept our school lights pink and yellow all week and Miss Gibbon created a new updated display in the Secondary library.

Three young people from Moffat Academy were part of the Dumfries and Galloway Schools Pipe Band who were playing up a category this year in the Junior B. Dumfries and Galloway placed third which was just brilliant! (We achieved the same points as 2nd place but placed third based on ensemble choice.)
