 Senior Bowling trip

51 intrepid senior pupils recently  enjoyed  an afternoon off timetable  in Carlisle at the end of a demanding academic term. A Pizza Hut buffet was followed by an hour of ten pin bowling and it was a well deserved opportunity for our S5 and S6 pupils to spend some time together just having fun.

Football Success!

Congratulations to the Moffat Academy U16 Girls Rugby team, who amazingly have come away as overall winners in the D&G Schools competition. An incredible achievement by the girls, who had to win matches against St Joseph's college, Douglas Ewart Academy, Wallace Hall Academy and Lockerbie Academy. The Girls played with real grit and determination in difficult conditions. They were a credit to the school and performed immaculately on and off the pitch.

On the other half of the competition, the boys had 5 really tough games against NWCC, Castle Douglas, Annan, Wallace Hall and Kirkudbright. The boys demonstrated real heart and desire across all of their games and came up just short of a place in the Top 3. Again, the boys were a credit to the school and can be incredibly proud of their efforts, playing with just 10 in their team and no substitutes. A hard day at the office! A big thanks to the Moffat Rams coaches, Cammy, Kelly, Ross and Luke for all of their hard work throughout the year. Mr Meola and all of the coaches could not be prouder of the teams today. Well done again!

Dragon's Den

Dragon's Den comes to Moffat Academy!

Annie Sweeney, our Student Teacher for Business Education ran a 'Dragon's Den' competition for our S2 pupils last term. Pupils were invited to create an invention and then present it to the Dragons/Teachers. Our winners are pictured below with their invention and Miss Sweeney.

The Bin-Ba

The product was made by Alfie the team leader, Vincent the time manager/tech person, Jake the resources manager and Harry the writer. We presented our product to The Dragons and we asked for £55,000 for 15% and we got £60,000 for 20%. We went up against 3 other businesses for the best idea for a product. The Dragons said it was really tough deciding a winner but in the end Bin-Ba won.

It was a fantastic invention that takes your bin out on bin day for you. Another dragon said ‘The product was a great idea and I can’t wait for it to go into production! The boys did a great job.’

 YPI Launch

Our S1 students will soon be participating in the highly successful Young Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) programme again this year. This is a pioneering programme delivered in school with a focus on supporting people experiencing hardship or difficulty within our community. The aim is for students to participate in a competition, creating presentations bidding for financial support for local charities. This furthers their understanding of issues impacting people around the world, as well as locally, and gives them a chance to take action and help.

Thank you to Mark Chambers from the Wood Foundation and Dick Monaghan from the Moffat Men's shed for coming into school recently to introduce the programme to our S1s.
