Public Protection S4-6 talks - You, Me, Together
Detective Constable, Stewart Fleming delivered three workshops on Wednesday 29th June to all S4,5 and 6 pupils.
Stewart is responsible for overseeing a project that Police Scotland are about to pilot within schools across the country, with the support of Education Scotland. The project is called 'You, me, Together' and it targets domestic abuse in young relationships, including themes of coercive control, inappropriate relationships, and peer pressure.
During the workshops, the S4-6 pupils were shown a short film following a story line of coercive control between young people in a school setting. The story focuses on the warning signs of escalation, isolation, emotional abuse, and the devastating effects it can have on a victim, their life, and their family.
The You, Me, Together project simply represents the message that if we all work together, we can tackle domestic abuse. The emphasis being on victims, friends, family, supporters, partner agencies, professionals and police working together. The workshop also included various group work activities including identifying healthy relationships, responsibilities as a bystander and the law and legislation.
Stewart and his colleague were both very impressed by the engagement and enthusiasm shown by the S4-6 pupils during the workshops.
