Secondary Speaking Competition Winners

In June 2022, Moffat Academy held its first speaking competition since 2019 and the lifting of COVID restrictions. There were several competitors taking part in both the junior (P7-S4) and senior (S5-6) competitions. The senior topic this year was ‘Women are superior to men’. The standard of the senior competition was particularly high this year and the judges discussed at length the merits of each competitor before finally reaching a decision. The overall winner for the senior competition was Morgan Todd in S5. Pupils in the junior competition spoke on a wide range of topics from why the UK should not have a monarchy to Scottish independence. The junior competition was also highly competitive and each speaker spoke with confidence and maturity. The overall winner for the junior competition was Kathryn Wilson in S2. All competitors can be very proud of their efforts this year and we at Moffat Academy hope that they will continue to take part in public speaking events in the future.
