Sport Volunteers Recruitment

CAN YOU HELP OUR SCHOOL BY VOLUNTEERING IN SPORT?

There are many reasons why you may decide to volunteer in sport –

  • You may want to give back to a school or community who helped you when you were younger.

  • You may want to help provide greater opportunities for people and children to take part in a variety of sports whether for health, participation or to compete or, you may want to help develop the next generation of players for the local school or club team.

  • You can meet new people, make new friends, and widen your social circle.

We would welcome more people volunteering in extracurricular sport in our school and help us provide greater opportunities for all ages to be active. Volunteering can also help reduce barriers to participation by reducing costs and making sporting opportunities accessible for all.

A former volunteer in a school was asked why they got involved in volunteering in sport and she said “I was able to support the school and encourage children to keep fit and active. I enjoyed volunteering because I felt part of the school community and it was great to see children get the chance to try a variety of sports. My daughter was often at these sessions which meant I was helping provide her with greater opportunities and she could see me taking an interest in what she was doing. She was also part of a school team that achieved national sporting success. This was one of her favourite memories from primary school and it was rewarding to know I played a helping hand in that.”

In recent years, local schools have all been successful in athletics, gymnastics, netball and rugby and volunteers have played a big part in that.

Individuals who would like to get involved would benefit from a rewarding experience, help provide sporting opportunities for children and the opportunity to help with school sport teams. They would also have access to paid for training opportunities including Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport, First-Aid, Coaching Qualifications and a PVG check.

Volunteering in sport not only provides children with opportunities to take part in sport, but it can also help develop a child’s resilience, teamwork, social skills, self-esteem, and confidence. It can also help raise attainment and offer greater opportunities in life.

Volunteers are the heroes of sport and without them, sport could not run the way it does. And for that reason, we make sure volunteers working with us benefit through volunteer award and recognition schemes.
