Science & Social Studies
Science and Social Studies Through a series of topics involving an appropriate balance of science, history, geography and modern studies, we aim to provide pupils with a structured approach to learning about their environment, the society in which they live and the wider world around them. Children are encouraged to explore their own environment and then extend their knowledge to other communities, past and present. In all of the areas we aim to develop the pupils’ attitudes to society and the world around them, their Knowledge and Understanding and their skills in preparing, conducting, reviewing and reporting on a range of tasks. All classes have lessons that are planned around the experiences and outcomes of CfE and this format continues into S1 and beyond. Throughout the primary department children are involved in a wide range of educational excursions related to topic work, enabling them to gain first hand experience of their heritage and the world in which they live.
